JHARSUGUDA:Intense heat leading to drastic drop in water levels has severely hit the villagers of Junanimunda near open cast mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited in Jharsuguda district.

The village is home to 72 families with a population of about 500 who were displaced for the Hirakund Dam and distanced from water source as well.
After repeated agitations, MCL started supplying drinking water to the village through tankers but the supply has been stopped for the last four days without any prior intimation, the villagers alleged.
The district administration has also failed in solving the problems of the villagers despite numerous requests to the RWSS Department, the villagers claimed.
Orient Sub Area Manager GS Jolly said, the villagers were informed that the tanker water supply from Ib river has been stopped and would be resumed when water level increases in the river. The mines also gets its supply of water from the river, he added.
