JAGATSINGHPUR:A former panchayat samiti (PS) member of Krishnanandapur under Tirtol block escaped a bid on his life after unidentified miscreants opened fire at him on Thursday night.

Md Azad Ahmed was talking with his supporters at Saudi Haat in Krishnanandapur when five unidentified miscreants shot at him. While the miscreants managed to flee, locals torched their car which they had left behind.

Sources said the incident was an outcome of a past rivalry between two groups of the ruling BJD during the last panchayat elections. The five unidentified miscreants belonged to Ahmed’s rival group in BJD.
The bullet narrowly missed Ahmed while the miscreants managed to flee on two motorcycles after the incident. As the news spread, supporters of Ahmed rushed to the spot and torched the car which the miscreants had left behind. Tirtol IIC Balaram Nayak said a person has sustained minor injury in the incident.
