Agitation over permanent jobs

PARADIP: Hundreds  of contract labourers of IFFCO led by Prasant Kumar and Ranjit Rout on Sunday staged demonstration in front of the main gate of the plant here demanding permanent jobs.

They alleged that though several contract labourers had undergone apprenticeship training, they were deprived of permanent jobs. After working for more than 17 years in the plant, the workers are yet to be considered for permanent staff while IFFCO authorities are recruiting fresh candidates for the posts, they said.

Despite having required qualification, the contract labourers have been deprived of getting benefits from IFFCO. Candidates from outside the State, who were employed after completing one year of training, are now being called to attend interviews for permanent jobs in different departments, they alleged.
The agitating contract labourers called off their strike after getting assurance from the plant officials.
Executive Director of IFFCO Ashish Kumar Panda said the strike by contract labourers has not affected the production of the plant.
