CUTTACK: A bid to marry off a minor girl was averted at Khentalo Issani Brahmapur under Kissan Nagar police limits in Cuttack district on Sunday by Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and local police.  The marriage of a 16-year-old girl of Paradip Garh in Jagatsinghpur district and 22-year-old man of Banki in Cuttack district was being solemnised in the presence of family and friends of the bride and groom when CWC, on a tip-off, reached the spot and stopped it said CWC member Pradip Patnaik.  The bride is a matriculate while the groom is a bus driver, he added. “On receiving information, the CWC asked local police to stop the marriage as it was a case of child marriage,” said Patnaik. Both the parties, who were produced before the committee, had agreed to refrain from marriage after a thorough counselling," he added.
