Man arrested for attack on three college girls

Police on Thursday arrested a man for assaulting three girl students of Alaka College. The arrested was identified as Dillip Kumar Swain of Jhanpur village.

JAGATSINGHPUR: Police on Thursday arrested a man for assaulting three girl students of Alaka College. The arrested was identified as Dillip Kumar Swain of Jhanpur village. Sources said the girls, all from Praharajpur village within Jagatsinghpur police limits, were going to college on their bicycles on Wednesday morning when Swain passed lewd comments and intercepted them at Jahanpur. When one of the girls resisted, he attacked her following which she fell down from the bicycle.

Swain also assaulted the other two girls with stick. The three girls had to be hospitalised, sources said.
 Later, the girls lodged an FIR with Jagatsinghpur police which registered a case and arrested Swain.
1 arrested for rape, murder

Jagatsinghpur: Naugaon police on Thursday arrested a man for rape and murder of a girl here two months back. The arrested was identified as Sarada Charan Mallick of Kothi within Erasama police limits.  As per reports, the victim, Namita Sahoo of Tantaoi village in Naugaon, was found murdered in a paddy field with injury marks on her body. The victim’s family members had lodged a complaint with police alleging rape and murder of Namita.

Naugaon IIC Sarbeswar Behera said Sarada had developed an illicit affair with Namita during the latter’s stay at her relative’s place in Erasama. However, the victim later refused to marry Sarada after coming to know that he was already married. Infuriated with her refusal, Sarada murdered the girl and threw her body in a paddy field. Family members of Namita had also staged dharna in front of the SP’s office last month protesting inaction of police in arresting the culprit. SP JN Pankaj had formed a special team to nab the miscreant. Sarada was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
