53 pc river water flows into sea: CM

About 53 per cent of water from 11 rivers of the State flows into the sea unutilised. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik admitted this while replying to a question from Dilip Ray (BJP) in the Assembly.

BHUBANESWAR: About 53 per cent of water from 11 rivers of the State flows into the sea unutilised. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik admitted this while replying to a question from Dilip Ray (BJP) in the Assembly. He said out of the 95,540 million cubic metre water flowing in the 11 rivers, 50,646 million cubic metres flow into the sea while the rest is utilised for irrigation, drinking water and industries. While 283.95 million cubic metres is used for drinking water, 2275.85 million cubic metres is used by different industries, he said. The Chief Minister said 53.23 pc water from Mahanadi, 55.81 pc from Bramhani, 40.78 pc  from Baitarani, 26.48 pc from Rushikulya, 63.6 pc from Bansdhara, 66.17 pc from Budhabalanga, 52.9 pc from Kolab, 50.8 pc from Indravati, 69.54 pc from Nagavali and 62.89 pc from Subarnarekha flows into the sea.
