MCL takes over 57 acres for mines

Mahanandi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Lakhanpur has acquired 57 acres of agriculture land in Darlipali village to expand its coal mines.

JHARSUGUDA: Mahanandi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Lakhanpur has acquired 57 acres of agriculture land in Darlipali village to expand its coal mines.

The company officials, in the presence of armed police, have taken possession of the land. Police arrested at least 66 villagers protesting against the acquisition by MCL. Sub-Collector Ajay Jena, Lakhanpur Tehsildar Hemsagar Bhoi, Brajrajnagar SDPO Nrupa Charan Dandasena, Banharpali IIC Purusottam Bhoi, Belpahar IIC Suresh Sahoo, Lakhanpur IIC Baikunthanath Seth and Rengali IIC Pratap Rana were present.

4 financial literacy centres opened

Dhenkanal: Four Centres of Financial Literacy (CFL), a pilot project by Reserve Bank of India, were inaugurated in Gondia, Bhuban, Kamakshynagar and Hindol blocks on Saturday. The centres will promote awareness on financial literacy and  bank products among the people to keep them away from chit funds. These centres will be operated by Dhan Foundation.
