ANGUL:  Laying down arms, two Maoists, who were active in Satkosia sanctuary since 2015, surrendered before the Angul Superintendent of Police on Sunday. They have been identified as Khusbu Jerai (18) and Sukuram Purthy (18) of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand.

They had joined the Maoist camp in 2012 and were trained to use arms for three months, police said. Feeling frustrated, they left the extremist outfit to join the mainstream, police added.

The duo used to work as recruiters and provide logistics support to the cadres. “They were involved in five incidents of exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists in Satkosia, Chhendipada and Handappa. They are also accused in other cases of violence  in Tikapara and Chutkei between 2015 and 2016,” police said.

“While recruiting them, the Maoists had promised them of providing good food and other things. But,  they hardly received anything. They have revealed information about Maoist sympathisers and others supporters in Satkosia, which are being verified,” SP Brijesh Rai said.  The State Government had announced cash award of `one lakh on their capture, earlier.
