ROURKELA: THE results of 34 of 35 ZP seats in Sundargarh district were announced on Saturday. The BJP bagged 13 ZP seats, while the ruling BJD settled for 14 seats.
While Congress got five, the CPI and CPM secured one seat each. Independent candidate of Birmitrapur MLA George Tirkey also emerged victorious.

Sources said results were delayed for Subdega-B and Rajgangpur-B seats where the BJD had sought recounting. The final results went in favour of BJD candidates.
Similarly, the Kuanrmunda-B seat, unofficially won by the BJD, was also challenged for recounting by Tirkey’s supporter.

After drawing blank in 2012, the BJP this time grabbed 14 ZP constituencies at the cost of the BJD and the Congress. The BJP swept Bargaon, Balishankara, Sundargarh, Tangarpali and Bisra blocks totalling 10 seats and also won in Rajgangpur-B, Lefripara- A, Subdega-B and Nuagaon-A seats.

The BJD made a clean sweep in Bonai Assembly segment winning seven of the eight ZPs. In Bonai, the BJD won all six seats of Bonai, Lahunipara and Gurundia blocks and also the seventh seat at Koida-B. Other seats won by the BJD included Nuagaon-B, Lathikata-A, B and C and Rajgangpur-A ZP seats. If after recounting the BJD wins Kuanrmunda-B seat, its tally will rise to 13.
The Congress won Subdega-A, Kutra-A and B, Hemgir-B and Lefripara-B. The CPM won Koida-A. Hemgir-A seat was won by the CPI and Tirkey’s candidate bagged Kuanrmunda-A seat.
