ROURKELAIN:  A shocking incident happened when a patient, Yadav Munda (25), admitted in infectious ward of Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), killed an aged fellow patient, Somnath Mundari (60), on Saturday over unknown reason.

RGH sources said Munda hit Mundari with a heavy panel of a window screen at around 3 am leading to the latter’s death two hours later. A case has been registered at RN Pali police station. The accused is at large.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of RGH Dr RC Behera said Mundari was admitted in the infectious ward on January 21 with tuberculosis and chronic kidney disease. He was supposed to leave for VIMSAR, Burla on Saturday. Munda was admitted two days ago with infection in the leg.

The CMO said Munda attacked the aged patient on his forehead with the heavy panel at 3 am and Mundari died at 5 am.

Deputy CMO Dr Shasank Kabi Satpathy said Munda attacked the victim while he was asleep and it appeared that the accused was suffering from some delusion which propelled him to kill Mundari.
