KORAPUT: District Congress Committee began its campaign for the ensuing three-tier panchayat polls under the leadership of DCC president Minakshi Bahinipati for ZP zone one at Ektaguda village under Mastiput panchayat in Koraput on Monday.

Addressing the meeting, Minakshi criticised the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government for failing to serve the people in its 16 years of rule. She also alleged that all the welfare programmes meant for the poor have been encashed by the BJD workers, hence depriving the former of the benefits.

Meanwhile, Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria said the panchayat raj system has been introduced by the Congress Government to ensure people’s participation in the democratic process unlike BJD, which is not concerned about the benefit of the people in the State. Moreover, maximum number of MLAs and MPs of the party have been involved in corruption, he added.

Similarly, criticising the Modi-led BJP, Sagaria pointed out that Congress is born for the people not for the corporates. He urged the people of Mastiput panchayat to cast their vote in favour of congress candidate Sima Macha for the ZP zone 1 of Koraput. Koraput Municipality Chairman Bhagaban Bahinipati, Samiti member candidate Babula Beniya were present.
