Lightning claims 4 lives

At least four persons, including three women, were killed and two others injured in lightning incidents in Mayurbhanj district on Friday.

BARIPADA:At least four persons, including three women, were killed and two others injured in lightning incidents in Mayurbhanj district on Friday. The incidents took place between 11 am and 12 pm in Tikarpada within Baripada Sadar police limits and Raghunathganj village under Kuliana police limits.

Three women died when lightning struck them at Tikarapada village. They are Shakuntala Singh (45), Mamata Mohanta (35) and Rina Mohanta (27). Two other injured women, who have admitted in District Headquarters Hospital at Baripada are Laxmimoni Singh and Jiyanta Singh, residents of Tikarpada village. All of them were grazing goats when it started raining. They took shelter inside a  thatched house when lightning struck them.

In another incident, an elderly man Harishchandra Sejpada of Raghunathganj village died on the spot after lighting struck him while he was sitting outside his house.
