CUTTACK: A group of students of Ravenshaw University on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of Vice-Chancellor’s office protesting the arrest of a fellow student in connection with the assault on Biswajit Mohanty, a Plus Two Science pass out of Junior College.

The students also raised slogans demanding immediate release of the arrested student, Ansuman Mohanty. Later, they submitted a memorandum to university authority.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prakash Chandra Sarangi, clarified that university authorities have nothing to do with it as it was an incriminatory incident and police would conduct investigation and take necessary action. “Law will take its own course,” Sarangi told.  The students also staged an agitation in front of DCP office, demanding his release.

DCP Akhilesvar Singh said, Ansuman was arrested after a proper investigation and they have adequate evidence. The other accused involved in the incident will be arrested soon, he added.

Biswajit, who had come to the university, to check the merit list for admission to Plus Three courses when he was dragged by some senior students. He was made to kneel down and assaulted by a group of senior students near Lalitgiri Hostel in Ravenshaw University campus on Monday.

The matter came to fore and victim filed compliant with police after a video clip of the incident went viral on social media. A case was registered at Malgodown police station and one of the accused arrested on Tuesday.
