SHG disengaged from supplying food stuff

The SHG, which got permission to supply ‘chhatua’ to 105 anganwadi centres in Balangir block, had allegedly replaced ingredients like whole ‘buta dal’ and groundnut with cheap flattened rice.

BALANGIR: Collector Ashish Thakare has disengaged Sabitri SHG at Sialbahali in Balangir block after allegation of irregularities in supply of foodstuff worth Rs 2 crore to different anganwadi centres under ICDS programme came to light.

While inquiry into the matter is going on by the Balangir Sub-collector, Thakare, in a letter on Wednesday, asked the SHG not to prepare and distribute ‘chhatua’ to the anganwadi centres.

Sources said foodstuff worth Rs two crore was supplied to different anganwadi centres under ICDS programme in the district by a grocery store that did not exist. One Ananga Thakur of Balangir had brought the allegation stating that there is no grocery store by the name Ganesh Kirana Store in the town.

As per the allegation, the store, stated to be located along the main road in Balangir, does not exist. The bills produced by Sabitri SHG of Sialbahali mention that the SHG purchased supply items from the aforementioned store. The SHG, which got permission to supply ‘chhatua’ to 105 anganwadi centres in Balangir block, had replaced ingredients like whole ‘buta dal’ and groundnut with cheap flattened rice.
