MALKANGIRI: Two surrendered Maoists tied the knot with the help of Malkangiri police here on Sunday. Deba Madhi alias Raghu, who was working as a party member of CPI(Maoist) Kalimela squad and surrendered in March this year, got married to Soni Madkami alias Radha, who was a self-styled deputy commandant with Kalimela area committee. Soni had surrendered in July last year.

The wedding was solemnised at MV-7 Shiva temple, which was specially decorated for the purpose. At least 500 guests were invited to the ceremony which was supervised by SP Jagmohan Meena.

While Deba had carried a cash reward of `4 lakh, Soni had `3 lakh on her head. The couple said it was not possible for them to lead a peaceful life as Maoists which is why they surrendered. Government assistance was an encouragement for them. “Each of them are being provided Rs 4,000 per month as government assistance and will be vocationally trained for their rehabilitation, “ the SP said.
