Two college students drown in Bansadhara

Two students drowned in the swollen Bansadhara river in Rayagada district on Tuesday. They were taking bath in the river at Gunupur when the mishap occurred.

RAYAGADA: Two students drowned in the swollen Bansadhara river in Rayagada district on Tuesday. They were taking bath in the river at Gunupur when the mishap occurred.The deceased are M Hemant Kumar (19) of Gunupur and his friend Dibya Pratap Behera (19) of Berhampur.

On Monday, Dibya, Hemant and their friend Chinmaya Gouda of Chhatrapur had come to Gunupur to spend a day at Hemant’s house. All the three are students of Khallikote College.

When the three youths entered Bansadhara river on Tuesday morning to take bath, Hemant and Dibya were caught in the water current. Chinmaya raised an alarm and locals rushed to the spot to rescue them. Subsequently, fire-fighters rescued the youths in an unconscious condition from the river. They were rushed to Sub-Divisional Hospital at Gunupur where doctors declared them brought dead. A case has been registered.
