Farmers’ outfit on stir

Activists of Nabanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) staged demonstration at Balikuda tehsil office on Wednesday demanding suspension of local tehsildar Paresh Nayak and pension for farmers.

JAGATSINGHPUR: Activists of Nabanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) staged a demonstration at Balikuda tehsil office on Wednesday demanding suspension of local tehsildar Paresh Nayak and pension for farmers.

They alleged that the Balikuda tehsil office has turned into a hub of corruption and many tehsil officials have been nabbed by Vigilance sleuths in the recent past.

In May, a peon and senior clerk of the office were arrested for demanding `5,000 from a person for mutation of his land.

Following this incident, NKS activists staged demo and ransacked the tehsil office on June 21. Nayak subsequently lodged an FIR against 12 NKS activists. On Wednesday, the NKS activists demanded suspension of the tehsildar and withdrawal of cases against the 12 persons.

They also demanded that every farmer should be given `5,000 as pension and minimum support price for paddy should be hiked.
