Software engineer, 4 others held for kidnap, extortion

Commissionerate police on Friday arrested five persons, including an employee of TCS, for kidnapping a job consultant over extortion.

BHUBANESWAR: Commissionerate police on Friday arrested five persons, including an employee of TCS, for kidnapping a job consultant over extortion.
Saheed Nagar police identified the miscreants as Sandeep Mohanty, Anup Roshan Roul, Siddhartha Sahoo, Amresh Kumar Nayak and Rakesh Roshan Routray. Rakesh, a software engineer with TCS, had purchased one SUV. Police seized four motorcycles, including two Bullets, the SUV and at least eight mobile phones from them.

The job consultant, Biswaranjan Dash of Kakatpur in Puri district, said he knew two of the kidnappers. Dash, who runs a job consultancy business, said one of the miscreants called him on Thursday morning and said there were some job aspirants who wanted to meet him.
“I reached Kalpana Square from Kakatpur by bus and from there I went to a place near IDBI Bank in Saheed Nagar where more than 10 persons were waiting. They took me to a building near an Omfed stall in the area and demanded `50, 000. I was kept confined until the police rescued me after 11 pm on Thursday,” he added. The kidnap is believed to be an act to avenge the failure of Dash to provide a job to one of the accused after taking `10,000 from him.

Police said they will also interrogate owner of Omfed stall near Bayababa Math, as to why he did not inform them that a group had assembled near his shop all day. Police are verifying whether the miscreants have any criminal antecedents. A manhunt has been lauched to nab others who reportedly fled.
One of the arrested persons is reportedly an employee of an Indian  multinational information technology firm’s office here.A case under Sections 364 A, 506 and 34 of IPC has been registered and miscreants were produced in a court on Friday.
