BHUBANESWAR: Two CRPF jawans from Punjab drew the ire of locals after allegedly passing obscene remarks at a woman near a mall in the city on Sunday.

The jawans, here to take part in a hockey tournament, were given sound thrashing before being handed over to Saheed Nagar police.

Police said the two para-military personnel were in an inebriated state. One of them made uncharitable comments at the woman in front of the mall at Saheed Nagar when the latter’s male friend took objection to the act.

He and other locals present at the spot thrashed the CRPF jawan. The other jawan was also beaten up when he tried to save his colleague.  “However, the woman refused to lodge a complaint in this regard. We will leave them after giving a stringent warning,” police said.
