Projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore cleared

The 10 projects, which were approved by HLCA,  are expected to create 46,000 jobs in State

BHUBANESWAR: The High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) on Friday approved 10 investment proposals worth more than Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The projects are expected to create 46,000 jobs in the State.
The decisions were taken at the HLCA meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The CM said the State Government has received firm commitments for more than 50 per cent of the investment intents received during the investors’ meets held last year at Mumbai, Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar.

The projects approved at the meeting include a 3200 MW (4X800) power plant by NLC Thermal Power at Jharsuguda with an investment of Rs 23,69.6 crore and having an employment potential of 3320. Besides, a proposal by JSW Steel to set up a 10 million tonne per annum capacity steel plant costing Rs 50,000 crore with an employment generation potential of 30,000 was also approved. The company has sought 4,500 acres of land which were earlier allotted to South Korea’s steel major Posco near Paradip for setting up the project, Chief Secretary AP Padhi told mediapersons.

“We will evaluate the exact amount of land required for the project and provide the same,” Padhi said and added that the project is likely to be completed in four years.

The HLCA also cleared JSW’s plans to lay a slurry pipeline linked to the steel project from Joda to Paradip. The 30 million tonne per annum pipeline with a cost estimate of Rs 3700 crore will create job opportunities for 350 persons.

The proposal for Nalco Smelter Expansion of 0.5 million tonne per annum capacity at Angul with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore and having employment potential of 5700 was cleared. Besides, Nalco Refinery expansion of one million tonne per annum capacity at Damanjodi with a cost estimate of Rs 4357.2 crore and having job potential for 1462 persons was also cleared.

Official sources said the HLCA approved 5.5 million tonne per annum steel plant by Bhusan Power and Steel Limited at Jharsuguda. The project with an investment of Rs 4252.4 crore will create jobs for 900 persons.

The proposal to set up a pellet plant of two million tonne per annum capacity at Dhamra by National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) with an investment of Rs 1810 crore and having job potential of 850 was cleared by the HLCA.

The expansion project of Paradip Phosphates Limited (PPL) estimated at Rs 9459.17 crore and with a job potential of 2667 was cleared. A proposal by Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited to set up a 3.3 lakh tonne per annum technical ammonium nitrate plant at Paradip with an investment of Rs 1750 crore and having employment potential of 440 was also approved.

The HLCA also approved the OCL Cement plant expansion proposal of 2.25 million tonne per annum at Rajgangpur with an investment of Rs 1994.98 crore and having job potential of 365.
