Odisha High Court issues notice to CBSE joint secretary

Issuing notice to Srivastava, Justice Biswanath Rath asked the officer to reply by July 3 as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.

CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday issued show cause notice to Joint Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Manoj Srivastava for making ‘undesirable’ remarks on a court order in connection with the alleged discrepancies in publication of Class XII examination results in Bhubaneswar zone.

Issuing notice to Srivastava, Justice Biswanath Rath asked the officer to reply by July 3 as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for making some undesirable statement in media.
Srivastava had allegedly issued a statement in New Delhi questioning the propriety of an order issued by Justice Rath directing the CBSE to re-evaluate the answer sheets of some aggrieved Class XII students.
The High Court has also asked the CBSE to produce the evaluated answer sheets of 18 students made following a court order. Besides, it has asked the CBSE to produce the list of revised result sheets after the application for re-totalling of marks by different students with a statement of original marks awarded and changed marks, if any by 12 noon on Wednesday.

At least 22 students had approached the High Court alleging discrepancies in the marks awarded to them in some papers. Results of many students in Bhubaneswar zone of the Board were kept withheld. Similarly, many students had complained of faulty evaluation leading to their poor marks in the examination.
