ROURKELA: As many as 16 students of Government-run Utkalmani Homoeopathy Medical College and Hospital (UHMCH) complained of enteritis on Monday and six of them were admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH).

The students, staying in hostel on the UHMCH campus, had taken dinner in the canteen on Sunday night. On Monday morning, they complained of stomach ache and loose motion. The UHMCH authorities provided them preliminary homoeopathy treatment but six of them showed acute symptoms of enteritis and were rushed to RGH.

UHMCH Principal RK Panda said the condition of all the students admitted to RGH is stable, while 10 others who were given treatment at the UHMCH have recuperated. He said from the symptoms of stomach ache and diarrhoea, it appeared that they suffered from enteritis and not food poisoning. He said they are yet to ascertain the exact reason of the illness.
