RAYAGADA: Two persons of Mutkuni village under Kalyansinghpur block of the district allegedly died of diarrhoea in the last four days. The deceased are Kalu Pushika (56) and Tikime Hikaka (40).  Five other affected persons have also been admitted to  Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre (CHC).

Block Chairman Jogendra Wadeka visited the village and took stock of the arrangements to shift the affected to Kalyansinghpur CHC. Wadeka said the villagers of Mutkuni under Karapa panchayat are depending on ‘nullah’ water for drinking as well as daily needs as there is no alternative.

On the other hand, Additonal District Medical Officer, Public Health,BLN Prusty denied diarrhoea deaths. He, however, sent a medical team along with epidemiologist Kalal Dash to the village to take stock of the situation. The team administered drugs to the affected.

Panic has gripped the people as in August last year, cholera bacteria  was found in stool samples of a couple of persons and this was also verified by Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar.
