Enforcement Directorate orders attachment of self-proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba's properties

BHUBANESWAR: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday issued provisional orders for attachment of properties worth Rs 11.40 crore of self-proclaimed godman Santosh Kumar Roul alias Sarathi Baba. Sarathi, who is currently lodged at the Choudwar Central Jail has been booked by the ED under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The movable and immovable assets which have been listed by the ED for attachment include Sarathi's sprawling ashram spread over two acres at Barimul in Kendrapada district. The ashram’s current market value has been estimated at Rs 9 crore. A bank account with balance of Rs 2.4 crore has also been recommended for attachment by the enforcement agency.

Some of these assets are owned by Sarathi, while others are registered in the name of Satyam Charitable Trust which was operated by the fake godman. Besides, a number of plots owned by his associates and followers also figure in the attachment orders, sources said.
