DHENKANAL: Resentment is brewing among the villagers of Bimhol in Madhusapatna GP following the death of an under-trial prisoner (UTP). The UTP, identified as Pabitra Rout (51), died while undergoing treatment at SCBMCH in Cuttack on Tuesday. Rout’s family members alleged that he died due to negligence by jail authorities.

Sources said Rout was arrested in connection with a murder case in 2014. The UTP was admitted to Dhenkanal DHH on April 19 as he was suffering from fever. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical  as his condition worsened. While undergoing treatment, Rout succumbed to his illness on Tuesday.
Rejecting the allegations, Jailor Satya Prakash Swain said the family members of Rout were informed and they had met Pabitra on April 19 in the DHH and later they accompanied him to Cuttack. Swain said he will recommend a judicial inquiry after receiving medical report.
