One  person has died of diarrhoea and 30 others have been affected in Adapada Gudiagaon village under Seragada block of the district.

BERHAMPUR: One  person has died of diarrhoea and 30 others have been affected in Adapada Gudiagaon village under Seragada block of the district. Consumption of contaminated water has been attributed to the spread of the disease which was reported in the village about four days back.

The village has only two tube-wells, both of which are non-functional for the last few months. Locals alleged that despite repeated requests to Rural Water Supply and Sanitation officials, no attention has been given to repair the tube-wells. The villagers alleged that no adequate health service was provided to the patients of the village.

The deceased has been identified as Bhasi Gouda (63). However, Chief District Medical Officer, Ganjam, Dr Manoj Kumar Behera denied death of Bhasi due to diarrhoea. The CDMO said she was suffering from high blood pressure and was admitted to Seragada PHC last week. Later, she was referred to MKCG Medical here but she died at home, he added. Ten of the affected persons have been admitted to Seragada hospital and rest are being treated in their homes. The CDMO added that after  the outbreak of the disease, a medical team has been camping in the village and treating the patients.
Due to the use of contaminated water and distressed sanitation system,  diarrhoea continues to spread in the remote villages of Kabisuryanagar and Polosara blocks in the district. Blood and stool samples of the villagers have been collected and sent for examination, Dr Behera added.
