ROURKELA:A 26 year-old Muslim man has alleged that his wife, a Hindu, was killed by her family members for marrying outside the community. The woman was staying with her parents at Lal Building road area under Plant Site police limits and had died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday.

In his complaint at Plant Site police station on Wednesday, Nasim Khan stated that he was informed about her sudden death in the morning and the body was cremated before he could reach the place. Khan said even the police were not informed and accused her father, two brothers and relatives of killing her for honour.

After receiving a complaint from Khan, Plant Site police registered an unnatural death case and a forensic team collected ashes and bone remnants from the cremation ground for scientific investigation.
Khan said despite stiff opposition from her parents, they had married in a court in March last year.
On April 1 this year, her sister and brother-in-law assured them over phone to normalise the tension at home and conduct the marriage again in a temple as per Hindu rituals. Following the assurance, she went to stay with her parents on May 1. DSP RK Panigrahi said inquiry is underway and her parents and relatives were being questioned.
