BERHAMPUR: Three persons died and two others were injured following a blast at a stone quarry in Bhatakhali hill under Polasora tehsil limits in Ganjam district on Friday.
Sources said about 10 labourers were engaged in planting explosives in the quarry when heavy wind, accompanied with lightning, struck the area causing the blast. Three persons died on the spot.
The deceased are stone contractor Susant Sahu (35) of Kaniari village, stone blaster Babula Sahu (30) of Subalaya village and helper Bhaskar Nayak (40) of Bhejiput village. Seriously injured Tunguru Nahak (30) of Bajrakote village and Sibaram Nayak (60) of Bhejiput village were first rushed to Aska Government Hospital and later shifted to MKCGMCH. Kabisuryanagar police rushed to the spot and investigation is on.
