BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to begin its probe into Barabati Stadium land grab case which was handed over to the premier agency by the Supreme Court last month.

Joint Director of CBI AYV Krishna, who arrived here on Wednesday, held a meeting with DIG Manish Sinha, SP Pramod Kumar Manjhi and senior officers of the CBI in the State.

Although Krishna took stock of the chit fund scam investigation in which the national agency has made significant progress and several convictions in high profile cases have been delivered by the court, he arrived here to kick-start the Barabati land scam probe, sources said and added that SP Manjhi will lead the investigation.

The apex court had ordered probe into the alleged land scam at Barabati Stadium by Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) on the basis of AG report.

The AG had found that OOA had constructed 23 shops and a marriage hall on the disputed land with its own resources. A 22-acre land was allotted to OOA by the State Government in 1949-50 in exchange for Rs 1 for stadium construction which, however, was later used for commercial purposes under OOA general secretary Ashirbad Behera’s tenure.
