Former tribal student leader joins BJD

Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik on Friday inducted a former student leader hailing from the capital district into the party.

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to revive the party organisation in Mayurbhanj after the drubbing it received in Zilla Parishad polls, Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik on Friday inducted a former student leader hailing from the district into the party.

"I am very glad that Dr Debashish Marandi joined BJD today. He had been a student leader of SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack. He will be leaving his job in Nalco to join the party," Naveen told mediapersons.

Marandi, a former student leader of SCB and senior medical officer of Nalco, joined the ruling BJD here in presence of Naveen at the latter's residence here.

Welcoming Marandi to the party, Naveen said the doctor, belonging to the tribal community, will be a tremendous asset in Mayurbhanj district. "We welcome more and more professionals to join the BJD. We will certainly provide a platform for him," he said.

The CM had paid a sudden visit to Mayurbhanj on Thursday to monitor the work on Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital at Baripada. In the Zilla Parishad polls, BJD could win only five out of 54 seats while BJP won 49 and JMM and Independent candidates won one each.
