RTI activist threatened in Odisha

A Balangir-based RTI activist has been threatened with murder after he raised his voice against police brutality at Lower Suktel site and an Sub-Divisional Police Officer in social media.

BALANGIR: A Balangir-based RTI activist has been threatened with murder after he raised his voice against police brutality at Lower Suktel site and an Sub-Divisional Police Officer in social media.

Sources said police, led by the SDPO, cracked down on the protesters of Lower Suktel irrigation project following which the SDPO was transferred to Keonjhar. But after four months, he was posted again in Balangir. Panigrahi had also filed a case in the Orissa High Court over Lower Suktel issue.

An FIR has been lodged at Town police station and a complaint filed in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in this regard.

Additional SP Sashi Bhusan Satpathy said the matter is under investigation and action will be taken soon.
