BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday directed the Energy and Police departments for extensive use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to address grievances of people.

The directive of the CM to the Energy Department came after he received a number of complaints from the public in his Twitter and Facebook accounts on frequent disruption of power. With Odisha under the grip of severe heatwave conditions and increasing number of complaints coming from different parts of the State, the CM reviewed the power situation at a high level meeting here.

He asked the department to address the complaints and grievances of consumers as early as possible. While advising the department to take advantage of social media platforms for addressing consumer grievances, the CM asked officials to keenly follow his Facebook and Twitter accounts. The department was directed to give necessary permission to field officers for maintaining a stock of emergency equipment which are required for maintenance of transmission and distribution of power.

The department officials told the meeting that availability of power is adequate to meet the demand of the State. Problems faced in distribution and transmission sectors, particularly in some western Odisha districts, including Balangir, are temporary.

The CM was assured that the problem faced by people of Patnagarh and Padampur will be resolved by Thursday.

Similarly, Naveen advised the Police Department to make effective use of social media. Naveen has asked SPs and DIGs to open official Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Protesting frequent power cuts in Patnagarh, Leader of BJP Legislature Party and Patnagarh MLA KV Singhdeo had staged a dharna there two days back demanding early resolution of the problem.
