BHUBANESWAR: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with the incident in which two railway personnel and two employees of a dairy firm were assaulted at the City railway station three days back.
The accused were identified as Sudarshan Biswal (39) of Kakatpur in Puri district and Sibananda Panda (25) of Fatehgarh in Nayagarh district. Biswal is a resident of Chintamaneswar in Laxmisagar area and Panda resides in Unit 1 area of the Capital City. Both of them are the members of the state unit of Bajrang Dal, GRP IIC Soubhagya Swain said.
They have been booked for unlawful assembly, assault, rioting and deterring a public servant from discharging his duty.
The criminal case was registered by the GRP under multiple Sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 7 of the Railways Act.
The cows which were rescued from the station and had been sheltered at a local club here and will be shifted to Guwahati on Puri - Kamakshya Express which departs at 11:40 pm from the State Capital.
On Wednesday night, the duo with their accomplices held the employees of Vertex Agritech Pvt Ltd hostage on platform no 2 of Bhubaneswar railway station and brutally assaulted them. While the company employees were transporting milch cows on Kochuvelli Guwahati Express, the group of self styled 'gau-rakshaks' roughed them up on allegations of cow trafficking.
The station manager and train driver who attempted to rescue the victims were also beaten up by the group. The entire episode was captured on CCTVs mounted on the platform.
The miscreants were stopped by the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) , who intervened and rescued the railway staffers and private firm employees. The cows were shifted to a local club located at Budheswari Colony here. The cows were being transported from Salem to the Animal Husbandry Department of Meghalaya Government.
