BARIPADA: Baripada Sadar police on Thursday arrested three persons for stripping a minor girl and her boyfriend and posting a video of it on social media.The arrested are Motilal Mohanta, Bikash Mohanta and Purushottam Mohanta, all aged around 25-28 years, of Jatipur near Station Bazaar in Baripada town.
Sources said the incident took place in April this year. The three accused had stripped the minor girl and her boyfriend at a lonely place near a forest. The accused had even filmed the entire incident on a mobile phone. Though family members of both the girl and her boyfriend knew about the incident, they had not disclosed it.
The short video of the accused stripping the girl went viral on social media after eight months of the incident. It first went viral in Bhubaneswar and later spread to Mayurbhanj and its neighbouring districts. On Thursday morning, the victim’s father lodged a complaint with the police in this regard following which the three accused were arrested. Baripada Sadar SDPO Abhimanyu Nayak said the incident took place on April 4. A case under Sections 392, 354(G), 500, 5009 and 392 IPC has been registered.
The minor girl is reading in high school while the boy, living in Sunamuhi Ward under Baripada Municipality, is an engineering student, the SDPO said and added that the accused will be produced in court on Friday.
3 cops hurt in attack by supporters of accused
Athagarh: Gurudijhatia IIC Bijaya Ketan Bishi and two other police personnel sustained injuries after being attacked by the supporters of an accused while executing an arrest warrant at Kumarpur village here on Wednesday night. The miscreants also torched the police vehicle. Sources said on getting information that accused Asima Beura, wanted for torching a house of Kumarpur Harijan Sahi, was present in the village, a team of local police went to arrest him. They were successful in arresting Beura at about 9.30 pm. However, the police team was attacked by supporters of Beura near the village while returning with the accused. In the attack, three cops including the IIC, were injured while the miscreants also torched the police vehicle. Meanwhile, Beura managed to flee from police custody. On being informed, the SP sent additional force to Kumarpur. However, on Thursday morning, five accused were arrested after a search operation. Police personnel have been deployed in the village. Following the incident, all male members of the households in Kumarpur have left the village apprehending arrest. Some women and children of the village were seen sitting before Gurudijhatia PS alleging police atrocities on them.
