BHUBANESWAR: As many as 26 districts have reported damage to crop caused by the unseasonal rains. The details of the crop loss is likely to be known on Monday when the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) compiles the reports.

Out of 30 districts, crop damage reports from 23 districts were received. Of the rest seven, Nuapada, Malkanagiri, Sonepur and Jharsuguda reported a nil loss report. Later, Ganjam,  Puri and Rayagada districts sent in the crop loss caused by unseasonal cyclonic rain. The final assessment would help early release of subsidy.

The SRC office said, reports of all 30 districts are now available and would be compiled on Monday. Already, the State has reported huge crop loss caused by drought and pest attack. At least 15 districts had reported damage to crop over 3.17 lakh hectares (ha) of land. Later, pest attack came as another blow for the farmers. Following an assessment, the State Government declared an area of 1.28 lakh ha in 8,092 villages under 24 districts as affected where crop loss was above 33 per cent. Input subsidy for these affected areas has already been released.
