Kissan wing submits memo

THE Pradesh Kissan Khet Mazdoor Congress (PKKMC), the farmers’ wing of the OPCC on Monday demanded MSP of D3000 per quintal of paddy.

BHUBANESWAR: THE Pradesh Kissan Khet Mazdoor Congress (PKKMC), the farmers’ wing of the OPCC on Monday demanded MSP of D3000 per quintal of paddy.  In a memorandum submitted to the President of India through the Governor, the PKKMC alleged that the Centre has justified its decision to raise MSP to J1550 per quintal by rejecting the Congress demand to fix it at D3000 per quintal.

If the Centre had fulfilled the promise by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revise the MSP by one and a half times of the production cost, the price should have been fixed at D2000 per quintal, PKKMC chairman Amiya Kumar Patnaik said and added that the production cost of paddy has been calculated by the Centre at D1327 per quintal.

They requested the Centre to revoke the rule on payment of bonus over MSP of paddy and said the State should be advised to pay bonus of D500 per quintal. The memorandum also demanded that the compensation package for the farmers should be increased by three times.
