JEYPORE: Cold wave has gripped Koraput district as night temperature dipped below 14 degree Celsius in many places, affecting normal life badly. This is the first chill to grip the tribal region after monsoon.
As per reports, the cold has already taken both hilly and plain terrains of Koraput and Jeypore sub-division in its grip. While the night temperature in hilly pockets is hovering between 12 to 13 degree C, in plains, it is 14 degree C. Thick blanket of fog covers several pockets of Koraput and Sunki till 10 am everyday, sources said.

The onset of cold conditions has affected normal life. Locals are keeping themselves confined to their homes after sun down while roads wear a deserted look during evening hours.
Usually, cold conditions are first experienced during the last part of October every year in tribal areas. But this year, there has been a delay of almost a month for the chill to set in. The depressions in other parts of the State have delayed the arrival of chilly conditions.

The cold conditions would intensify in next couple of days which will be beneficial for vegetable cultivation, said sources in Agriculture department.
