Two youngsters drown in Mahanadi while taking pictures in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Two teenagers drowned this morning while bathing in the Mahanadi river near Dhabaleswar Ghat. The mishap occurred while they were taking pictures.

While rescue teams rescued the body of one boy, identified as class X student Subham Panda, a search is still underway to trace the other.

The incident occurred within CDA Phase - II police limits at about 8.30 am when three youths went to bathe in the river. While taking pictures, one student slipped and was swept away. While trying to rescue him, the other boy, a Plus Two student, also drowned.

Cuttack deputy commissioner of police Akhileshvar Singh told New Indian Express that one of the youngsters was not a good swimmer. The water was deep in the area where they were taking bath.

Two teams of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and one team of firefighters are engaged in tracing the other boy’s body.
