BHUBANESWAR : The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), an arm of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has received 5,000 pledges for organ donation by Odisha-based Body and Organ Donation Initiative (BODI). While organ donation is still surrounded by myths and superstition, BODI achieved an outstanding 3,000 pledges in one hour on January 30 and created a record, Director of NOTTO Prof Vimal Bhandari said in a press release after BODI president Pravas Acharya handed over the pledges.


Lauding the efforts, Prof Bhandari also stressed on the proactive role of the State Government to raise awareness on organ donation and development of infrastructure in hospitals so that cadaveric transplantation is possible whenever there is a brain death of a donor.
