October deadline for reforms in ease of doing business

The State Government has received firm investment commitments worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore from 74 companies during investors’ meets.

BHUBANESWAR: As the State has been recognised as a leader by the Centre for facilitating reforms on doing business, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday directed departments concerned to complete the process by October 10.The State Government has received firm investment commitments worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore from 74 companies during investors’ meets in Bhubaneswar, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Some of the sectors which have come forward to invest are electronics, food processing, metals and minerals.

The Chief Minister directed the Industries department to work in close coordination with departments concerned to extend hassle-free facilitation support to the investors for timely grounding of their projects.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress in implementation of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ framework through the single window clearance mechanism at a high-level meeting here.
The State Government has signed memorandum of understandings (MoUs) worth `3.6 lakh crore with 124 companies during Make in Odisha Conclave in Bhubaneswar, Odisha Investors’ Meet in Bengaluru, and ‘Make in India’ week in Mumbai. The State has so far received firm commitments (eBiz applications received) from 74 project proponents, official sources said.

The State has unfurled a slew of business reforms which are seen as key drivers for the improved performance. The integration of business related services with eBiz portal and online G2B portal of the Centre was undertaken to enable online application for industrial clearances. The system allows online application, payment, tracking of approval status as well as options to download the final signed approval certificate and no objection certificates (NOCs), the sources said.

In recent ranking of ease of doing business released by the Centre, Odisha has been reckoned as a leader for facilitating reforms for doing business in the State.The State Government has identified around 373 action points for the reform process in various departments so that the investors do not face difficulties while setting up their units in the State, the sources said.Meanwhile, 15 services required for various clearance certificates to set up projects in Odisha have been made online and steps have been taken to add 35 more services by the end of September.
