CUTTACK: A tanker carrying LPG from Karnataka to Assam overturned on NH-16 near Madhupatna square here on Sunday night. The mishap occurred when the driver of the gas-laden tanker lost control over the steering and the vehicle skidded off the road before ramming a divider and paralysing traffic on the national highway.
Two persons who were going on a two-wheeler got trapped under the vehicle. The injured Asish Parida (35) and Abhay Mohanty (32) were rushed to hospital by some locals. Though no leakage of gas was reported, the area was cordoned off by police to prevent any untoward incident. Later, the vehicle was safely lifted in a joint operation by police, NHAI, fire service, NDRAF and ODRAF authorities. “We could not risk lifting the gas tanker as a minor error could have led to leakage of gas,” said a senior police officer.
