CUTTACK: The Madhupatna police station premises virtually turned into a battlefield on Monday after two groups clashed over a disputed love marriage.According to sources, a 35-year-old woman of Hatagiri village in Jajpur district claimed that she was married to one Nirmal Swain of Nuapada. Following a dispute, both were living separately. Nirmal, who was jailed after the woman filed a case against him, was released recently. Soon after release, Nirmal married another woman on February 11. Protesting the marriage, Nirmal’s first wife staged a dharna in front of his house two days back. On receiving a complaint, Madhupatna police summoned both the parties to police station for an amicable settlement of the case.

Both the parties reached the police station but while a discussion was on, an exchange of words ensued inside the police station. The verbal duel soon turned into fist blows with both groups assaulting each other. Police managed to clam down the two parties.

An FIR was filed against Nirmal for marrying another woman even as their case is sub judice. In his FIR Nirmal alleged that the woman concerned who was living on rent near his house and indulged in unlawful affairs. When he protested her illegal activities she filed a false case against him, claimed Nirmal. She has also demanded ` 50,000 to withdraw the case, he alleged.Two cases have been registered at Madhupatna police station and investigation is on, said ACP Anil Mishra.
