KORAPUT: Chairperson of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Justice BK Mishra on Sunday began an inquiry into the delivery of a baby by a pregnant woman in a drain on the premises of Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (MCH) here after being allegedly denied treatment by a doctor. On December 15, 2017, Dhanei Muduli of Taljaniguda village of Mastiput panchayat was forced to deliver her baby in a drain on the premises of hospital. Relatives of Dhanei alleged that the doctor refused to treat the woman as she did not have the required medical reports.

Sources said the woman’s husband Raghu Muduli, who was suffering from fever, was admitted in the MCH and Dhanei had came to the hospital to attend to her ailing husband. On the day, she developed labour pain and went to the Out Patient Department (OPD) where the doctor asked her to come with requisite prescription papers and medical reports. As Dhanei did not have any reports with her, she was not allowed into the OPD.On Sunday, Justice Mishra visited Taljaniguda village and interacted with the victim’s family members and later, he met the doctors of the hospital.
