Fresh norms for Khusi sanitary napkin scheme

The State Government has issued fresh guidelines for distribution of sanitary napkins to girl students under ‘Khusi’ scheme from this academic session.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has issued fresh guidelines for distribution of sanitary napkins to girl students under ‘Khusi’ scheme from this academic session. Accordingly, Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCCs) have been asked to identify adolescent girls from Class VI to XII in Government and Government aided schools and submit the list to Block Education Officers and District Project Officers of their region at the earliest.

The Government guideline says that schools have to pick one lady teacher who will remain in charge of ‘Khusi’ project and she will be the nodal officer. The lady teachers, who have undergone adolescent training in 2017-18, will be picked as nodal officers. In the absence of lady teacher in a school, the lady teacher of the nearby school will act as the nodal officer.

The orientation will be given to the students and nodal teachers on use of the sanitary napkin and disposal of the same. “Steps need to be taken for construction of the incinerators in all the schools for disposal of napkins,” the guideline stated. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced the launch of the programme in February to provide sanitary pads to girl students of schools free of cost. The scheme is implemented by the Health and Family Welfare department at a cost of `70 crore per year.
