BHUBANESWAR: Lok Sabha member Ramachandra Hansdah, who was in jail in connection with Nabadiganta Capital Services chit fund scam, was released on Friday after Supreme Court recently granted him bail.

The MP was arrested by the CBI in November 2014, for his alleged links with Nabadiganta, and he was languishing at Jharpada Special Jail here.

After walking out of jail, Hansdah targeted the Centre by alleging that the Central agency was functioning under the pressure of BJP-led Central Government and it was an attempt to suppress the Opposition.
“The apex court granted bail to Hansdah without any conditions,” the MP’s trial court lawyer Gouri Shankar Pani told this newspaper. The apex court directed the trial court to issue bail to the suspended BJD MP, who was in jail for the last four years.

Hansdah was questioned by a team of Ministry of Corporate Affairs at Jharpada Special Jail in March this year. CBI had earlier filed charge-sheet against Hansdah and seven others for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam.

The Central agency had also raided the MP’s residence months before arresting him and had seized `28 lakh. Though he had initially claimed that it was his own money, later he had said the cash was of his supporters.
