ANGUL:  After successful test identification (TI) parade of the two arrested inter-State dacoits on Monday, Angul police is planning to seek a 15-day remand of the duo. Angul SDPO Haraihar Pani said, “We will appeal to the court for 15- day remand of the duo for further investigation. We hope to get vital clues from the dacoits currently lodged in Angul jail.”

Angul police, which was under fire after two bank heists in three months, arrested two of the seven dacoits from Gaya district of Bihar last week. The arrested duo, identified as Rajesh Das and Om Prakash Das of Gaya, was brought to Angul and produced in court which sent them to jail. The mastermind of the bank heists and other accused are still at large.

“Six to seven persons were involved in the two bank dacoities. We are investigating their local connection and will arrest the rest accused soon,” said the SDPO. On the day, the TI parade of the two dacoits was held in Angul jail in presence of the Magistrate. The staff of both Indian Bank and Andhra Bank, who attended the parade, identified the two accused involved in the heists, informed a police official.

On April 6, a group of armed dacoits looted `27 lakh and gold ornaments from Andhra Bank here. Similarly on July 7, armed dacoits decamped with `8 lakh and gold ornaments from the Indian Bank branch in the town. The dacoits had also taken away the hard discs of CCTV cameras installed at the banks to hide their identity. However, the miscreants involved in the second bank heist had left a motorcycle which led to the arrest of the two Gaya dacoits. Police are yet to recover the looted money.
