Police vehicles to be enabled with GPS

It has also been decided to set up Integrated Modern Control Room in all police stations of the district to enhance safety and security and provide better public services to people.

JAGATSINGHPUR:  Police vehicles across Jagatsinghpur district will soon be fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS). In the first phase, GPS has been installed in all the police vehicles under Paradip police station. Following a spate of criminal cases including highway robbery, snatching, motorcycle and four-wheeler thefts in Paradip, Tirtol, Raghunathpur and Biridi, it was decided to make the police vehicles GPS enabled.

It has also been decided to set up Integrated Modern Control Room in all police stations of the district to enhance safety and security and provide better public services to people. Jagatsinghpur SP Prakash R informed that Paradip police station will soon be developed as a model police station. The SP said the GPS will be linked to the control room which will use electronic tracking devices to monitor the movement of police vehicles on a real time basis on a digital map.

He added that smart cop patrolling system has been introduced in Paradip and Jagatsinghpur to curb anti-social activities. “Special emphasis has been given to Paradip port area and Jagatsinghpur police limit areas. This would act as a deterrent for criminals and anti-social elements. The main objective of the system is to ensure effective police patrolling and extending necessary and quick response to anybody seeking police assistance in distress and urgent situations,” the SP said.

In Jagatsinghpur, the police have chalked out strategy to check criminal activities in all Wards of the municipality. The plan involves deploying police personnel in each Ward and interaction with different categories of people including senior citizens, elected representatives, women and youth leaders.
