Man held for bid to kill wife in Talcher

TALCHER : Talcher police on Saturday arrested one Kanhu Behera (30) of Arakhpal village on the charge of torturing his wife and attempting to kill her.

The accused's wife Srabani Dalbehera (25) had filed a complaint against her husband on July 19 alleging physical and mental torture for dowry. Police said Kanhu had married Srabani in March 2016 and the couple had a 11-month-old son.

At the time of marriage, the accused was given household articles along with `70,000 as dowry. However, he again demanded `50,000 from Srabani's family and threatened to kill her.

Police said Kanhu made two attempts to kill his wife. In the first attempt, he tried to suffocate his wife with a pillow and in the second instance, Kanhu tried to set Srabani on fire by pouring kerosene on her body.

As per the complaint, the accused had recently got married again to a woman from Chhendipara area. Talcher police station inspector in-charge Souvagya Swain said the police swung into action.
