BJP drive against ‘fraud’ in rural scheme

Targets to expose corruption promoted under ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ programmes of the ruling party.

BHUBANESWAR:Claiming that sanction of projects under ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ programme to villagers without inviting tenders has promoted corruption, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said it will launch a State-wide campaign to expose how the scheme is only benefiting ruling BJD leaders.
“The BJD leaders are looting the State exchequer under the ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ programme launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The works sanctioned to villagers are being executed by contractors and ruling party leaders are collecting huge PC (percentage commission) from them,” national BJP general secretary Arun Singh told a media conference here.

Accusing the CM, who had instructed district Collectors to stop the practice of collecting commission and promoting PC culture, Singh said this is another scheme to benefit BJD workers.

Hitting out at Naveen for sanctioning projects without inviting tender and ignoring the people’s representatives, he said the BJP will launch ‘Pol Khol Abhiyan’ to expose corruption cases involving MLAs and Ministers.

Slamming the State Government for its all-round failure, Singh said after being unable to provide jobs to unemployed youths during BJD’s 19-year rule, the CM is trying to woo them by constituting Biju Yuva Bahini and giving them lollipops.

Dubbing the BJD as a ‘lollipop’ Government, the BJP leader said the ruling party had adopted similar tricks by launching ‘gram sathi’ and ‘krushak sathi’ schemes just before 2009 and 2014 General Elections respectively in the State.

While large parts of the State is witnessing undeclared power cuts, the Government has failed to provide basic facilities to people. The health sector is in doldrums without required number of doctors and other paramedics. The Government’s claim of distributing free medicine is a sham, Singh said.
Claiming that the BJD Government’s dismal show has left people disillusioned and unhappy, Singh asserted to achieve the “Mission 120” of party president Amit Shah as people of Odisha have started showing overwhelming support to BJP.
