Odisha: Puri and its periphery to be declared 'no flying zone' during car festival on July 14

This was decided at a high level meeting presided over by director general of police RP Sharma to discuss about various security issues.

BHUBANESWAR: Puri town and its periphery will be declared as 'No Flying Zone' during the car festival (Rath Yatra) on July 14.

This was decided at a high level meeting here presided over by director general of police (DGP) RP Sharma to discuss about various security issues. Director Biju Pattanaik International airport Suresh Chandra Hota and director, civil aviation assured to take necessary steps in this regard.

A team of NSG is likely to be camped at Puri to meet any emergency during the festival. Sufficient number of personnel from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be deployed with necessary equipments to act in any crisis situation. They will be assisted by the state Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF).

Senior Police Officers of the State Police and officers from Central Security agencies like Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), National Security Guard (NSG), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Coast Guard, Air Port Authorities of India, Indian Navy and IB attended the meeting.

The central agencies expressed to extend their cooperation to provide sufficient number of man power and equipment to supplement security. Coast Guard agreed for adequate sea patrolling off the coast of Puri. RPF agreed for adequate security at Puri and Bhubaneswar stations and also in the running trains and make proper arrangement for dissemination of information to railway passengers through LED regarding timings of different trains.

Sufficient number of CCTV cameras shall also be installed by the RPF in the Puri Railway Station during the mega festival. Senior Officers of CRPF and BSF also expressed their full cooperation to prevent any evil design by any extremist group. Indian Navy and State Police will provide timely support to the Coast Guard in the above mission.
